What kinds of mental health nursing services are funded by the NDIS?
Individuals with long-term disabilities stemming from mental health issues may qualify to become participants in the NDIS. However, not everyone with a mental health condition will have a disability that meets the funding criteria of the NDIS. This program is specifically intended for those who face severe and enduring disabilities.
To gain access to the NDIS, individuals with mental health conditions must present evidence demonstrating that:
- Their mental health condition has led to challenges in their daily life, AND
- These challenges are likely to necessitate ongoing NDIS support, AND
- Their mental health issues have significantly impaired their ability to perform everyday activities.
It is important to note that the NDIS is not meant to replace community mental health services available through the healthcare system. Instead, the support offered by the NDIS is aimed at providing practical assistance for daily living and facilitating access to community services for participants with severe and long-term mental health disabilities.
