What kinds of community nursing services are funded by the NDIS?
High Intensity Community Nursing Care is available for NDIS participants with complex needs, necessitating that their Carers possess medical training and experience, including accredited professional nurses. Services that can be incorporated into an NDIS plan are those aimed at promoting independent living, known as ‘capacity building’—meaning the care provided should enhance your independence or develop your skills towards achieving it.
Extra support may be necessary in situations such as:
- Behavioral support requirements
- Severe communication limitations
- Medical interventions like ventilation, urinary catheter management, and enteral feeding
To qualify for NDIS funding, community nursing care must:
- Be connected to your disability
- Contribute to your long-term wellbeing
- Be administered by a qualified nurse
- Be time-limited
Community nursing services will not be funded by the NDIS if:
- The care needed is not directly associated with your disability
- It can be covered by the state healthcare system
- The care is not deemed capacity building
- A qualified nurse is not required for the care provided.
